Field Hockey to Honor the 2023 Class Sunday

DAVIDSON — When the Davidson field hockey team holds Senior Day Sunday, it'll be a bit of a full circle moment for the class of 2023, but also for head coach Zoe Almquist.
The eight-member class, which will be honored prior to the Wildcats' 12 p.m. game against Bellarmine, is mostly comprised of the first group of players to step into a college lineup for an Almquist-coached team.
"I'm not sure I can properly articulate what this senior class has meant to this program and to me as a coach," said Almquist. "They are my first freshmen, and they will forever hold an irreplaceable spot in my heart."
The class includes five four-year players: Natalie Naticchia, Anna Sharp, Amani Sodhi, Caroline Wack and Amy Worscheh. Charlie Kabelac, who came in with the 2024 class, has played three years and is graduating early, while Emma Coleman and Molly Firr have most recently served as team managers after injuries.
Almquist credits them all for "being vulnerable and open to learning alongside me, for weathering the trials and uncertainties of a pandemic, for being the catalysts as we've grown our team's culture, for being the workhorses who powered our shifts in urgency and attention to detail and expectation and for loving on themselves, each other and this program."
"I am eternally grateful," said Almquist. "I tell them all the time, but it is an honor and a privilege to coach them every single day, and no outcome on the scoreboard could ever change that."
