Davidson Splits Sunday Duals Against LIU Post, The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Davidson split their pair of matches against LIU Post and The Citadel on Sunday in Charleston, S.C. inside McAlister Fieldhouse. The 'Cats are now 3-7 overall and 1-2 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LIU Post
Bryce Sanderlin started things off at 157 for the 'Cats with a close 3-2 decision and Jaden Hardrick was right behind him at 165 with a 9-4 decision to give Davidson a 6-0 lead heading into the heavier classes.
The 'Cats dropped the 174, 184 and 197 bouts but bounced back with back-to-back pins from heavyweight Mitchell Trigg at 4:26 and 133-pounder Kyle Gorant in 4:51. Davidson was back in the lead, 18-16 with two rounds left.
A 14-2 major decision for LIU in the 141-round gave the Sharks a 20-18 lead and it all came down to Gavin Damasco at 149. The sophomore held on through a grueling three rounds for a 4-0 decision to give the 'Cats the win and a 1-0 start to the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Citadel
Steven Newell earned his first victory of the day against The Citadel in a thrilling 5-3 SV over his opponent and was followed by Holston who wrestled through and walked away with a 3-1 decision.
Damasco was the lone wrestler from Davidson who went 2-0 on the day, bringing in a 3-1 SV victory after being tied at 1-1 through the first three periods and taking down his opponent with 30 seconds left in the OT period.
