WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Davidson volleyball team fell in three sets on Friday night to ACC foe Wake Forest from inside Reynolds Gymnasium.
Freshman Isabel Decker had a phenomenal night, ending the match with 12 kills on 28 attempts (.357 attack percentage). Reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week Bella Brady also continued with her consistent ways, finishing with 15 digs while setters Xuan Nguyen and Jessie Doyal combined for 25 assists. As a team, the 'Cats hit .114 compared to Wake Forest's .154 attack percentage.
In set one, the Wildcats blasted off to an early 8-3 lead, due largely in part to Decker's first three kills of the day, forcing the Demon Deacons into a timeout. Wake Forest eventually caught up to the 'Cats, however, tying the set at 14 points apiece, before pulling away with an 18-15 advantage. The deficit did not stop Davidson though, as two Deacon miscues and a Malia Kay kill allowed the 'Cats to regain a 21-20 lead. But from there, Wake Forest closed out the set on a 5-1 run with three kills, a block and a service ace to secure the first set victory.
Set two proved to be a tighter race to the finish, with Davidson and the Demon Deacons exchanging leads five times throughout the frame, while fighting through 11 tied scores. The 'Cats improved their offense to a .207 attacking percentage throughout the second set, but Wake Forest's four service aces were the difference maker in the 25-20 set win.
Wake took the third and final set of the night, after the Wildcats struggled to find their offensive rhythm again, swinging .039 in the final frame.
Davidson will have a quick turnaround again this weekend, as the 'Cats will travel to Chapel Hill to face the Tar Heels tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. Tune in to davidsonwildcats.com/coverage for complete media coverage.
