NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch is this week's Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Bunch and the Wildcats went 1-0-1 this past week, and the senior from Raleigh played 200 minutes in goal, without allowing a goal. The weekly honor is her first this season and the fifth of her career. It also marks the second time a Wildcat has been recognized with a weekly award this year, following Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, who was A-10 Rookie of the Week on Aug. 23.
"Over the last week, our team has continued to bond and play as a cohesive unit," said Davidson coach Adam Denton. "Clean sheets are an indicator of that, and Mary Grace is a big part of that. She'd be the first to say it's all about the team and everyone doing their part."
Bunch played 110 minutes and made five saves in the Wildcats' 0-0 draw at USC Upstate Thursday. She had two saves in 90 minutes in Sunday's 2-0 win at UNC Asheville.
In their next outing, Bunch and the Wildcats will shift to A-10 play when they visit Rhode Island on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
