9/12/2021 3:24:00 PM | Men's Soccer
MACON, Ga. – Lucas Hauth and fellow forward Vincent Bennage each scored a goal for Davidson and Giacomo Piccardo came up with big saves late, to lift the No. 22 Wildcats over Mercer, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Betts Stadium.
With the win, Davidson improves to 3-1-0, while the Bears fall to 2-3-0.
After multiple scoring chances for the 'Cats early in the first half, Hauth put his club up 1-0 in the 27th minute. His 15th career goal came following a Nicholas Cavallo pass over the defense that Hauth chest trapped and flicked past the Bears' Brant Zulauf.
Clinging to a 1-0 lead, Sai Tummala found the head of Bennage with a perfectly played cross to extend Davidson's margin to 2-0 at the 77:21 mark.
Bennage, making his first collegiate start, pulled even with Hauth for the team-lead in goals with his third of 2021 in just four contests.
With just under nine minutes to play, Ousman Jabang netted Mercer's only score when he put away a loose ball in front.
The Bears held an 11-9 edge in shots, but it was the 'Cats with the advantage in attempts on frame, 5-4.
Both keepers finished the contest with three saves.

Davidson will continue its stretch of three straight away from home with a 7 p.m. kickoff at former SoCon rival Furman on Wednesday evening.
