Baseball to Tune Up With Three Fall Contests
8/27/2021 9:01:00 AM | Baseball
The Davidson baseball team, coming off a 27-win spring, will play three fall contests in September and October, head coach Rucker Taylor announced Friday.
Per NCAA guidelines, baseball teams can play two fall games against fellow college teams and one international game. Fan are expected to be able to attend, depending on the latest protocols, and game times will be announced at a later date.
Here's what the Wildcats have coming up:
• Monday, Sept. 27
The Wildcats will host the Ontario Blue Jays, a Canadian amateur team, at Wilson Field.
Taylor: "The Blue Jays are an excellent group, and this will be our second opportunity to play them in the past few years. The organization has a lot of talented guys, and they play an impressive schedule each fall."
• Saturday, Oct. 16
Davidson will host Duke at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, the home of the Single-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, where the Wildcats defeated Wofford 7-6 on March 30.
Taylor: "The opportunity to play at Kannapolis this fall is a highlight. We had an exceptional experience there last spring. Scotty Brown and the whole organization are first class and treated our program unbelievably. We have a lot of ties with the Duke staff, and I believe they are equally excited to see the new venue. I strongly encourage anyone who hasn't seen the new ballpark to come out and watch."
• Saturday, Oct. 23
The Wildcats welcome Erskine to Wilson Field for the final contest of the fall.
Taylor: "This will be our second time playing Erskine in the fall in recent years. Their staff has done a great job, and this will be a great evaluation opportunity for both programs."
