Depth Propels Wildcats Past Patriots, Into Semifinals

Despite dropping the doubles match on court one, Davidson bounced back with a strong court three effort to settle the score. Thanks to Ogden Timpson and Camden Mazzoni, the two 'Cats powered through a 6-1 result in the No. 3 slot and counted on Douglas Macintosh and Sam Kavarana to finish the job. The court two duo did just that, as Macintosh and Kavarana dominated Mason's Sardana and Khan in a 6-1 victory that secured the early doubles point.
With a 1-0 advantage the Wildcats went to work on the singles courts, led by two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Alejandro Solares, who won in two 6-3 sets to make it a 2-0 match in favor of Davidson. Junior Brooks Green followed Solares' lead, downing George Mason's Rivas, 7-6 and 6-0 from court six, for the Wildcats' third point of the day.
Looking to secure the clinching point of the match, Mazzoni picked up a 7-6 first set win from court four, and Kavarana had battled back from a set one deficit to win 6-0 in the second and forced a deciding third set. Although the Patriots answered back with a win on court two, Mazzoni took matters into his own hands and produced a 7-5 second-set win to secure the quarterfinal victory for the 'Cats.
With the win, Davidson will advance to the conference's semifinal match up on Saturday, where the 'Cats will take on top-seeded VCU at 10 a.m.
