NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Having qualified for its first Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, the Davidson women's soccer team has also secured a trio of individual league honors, the A-10 announced Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Grace Bunch is A-10 First Team Co-Goalkeeper, while forward Hailey Braemer is on the Second Team. Coach Adam Denton is Coach of the Year.
It's the most honorees the Wildcats (6-3-3, 4-2-2) have had since joining the league in 2014.
"Really pleased for both Mary Grace and Hailey for the recognition of their performances this year," said Denton. "Both players will be the first to tell you that their success comes down to all the work that not only they have done but also their teammates to get us to a point to compete at this level. Hailey has had a phenomenal season, scoring some goals and making some assists. Mary Grace has been steady and made some critical saves at key times."
Bunch's honor is her second in as many seasons, after she earned Second Team honors last season, becoming the first Wildcat to earn a spot on the all-conference team. The junior from Raleigh has an 0.67 goals against average and a .784 saves percentage this year, while making 29 saves and logging more than 1,072 minutes in goal. She has four shutouts and contributed to a fifth. After helping the Wildcats earn ties against VCU and George Washington, she was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week this week. She also earned the A-10 weekly honor on Feb. 22.
A sophomore from Nashville, Tenn., Braemer leads the team with four goals, five assists and 13 points. Two of her goals came in the final four contests, as the Wildcats made a postseason push. She scored in the 1-0 win at George Mason March 28 and in the clinching 1-1 tie at George Washington Sunday. Other highlights included two goals against William Peace and two assists in the first match with George Mason.
Denton, originally from Liverpool, England, is in his fourth year as head coach after joining the Davidson staff in 2013. His Wildcats have shown significant improvement the last two seasons, going 14-11-6 in that time, with a 7-7-4 A-10 record.
The Wildcats enter the A-10 Tournament Thursday with a 5 p.m. game against UMass.
