
Rippley, Carey Secure A-10 Lacrosse Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson lacrosse players Sam Rippley and Julianne Carey have secured Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Rippley is offensive player of the week, while Carey is the league's top rookie for the fourth straight week. The duo helped Davidson win its fourth straight game, a 15-14 overtime victory at High Point on March 3.
A senior midfielder, Rippley scored five goals against High Point, including three on free-position shots, and scored the game-winning goal that lifted the Wildcats past the Panthers for the just the third time since 2011. Rippley also scored three goals in Sunday's loss to Coastal Carolina. She's the third Wildcat to be named player of the week this year, following Gianna New (offensive, Feb. 16) and Amanda Monahan (defensive, Feb. 23).
Carey had six points in the week, including four goals and two assists. She had a goal and an assist against High Point and three goals and an assist at Coastal. The freshman midfielder also had a career-high seven draw controls against the Panthers and had 13 total draws for the week.
Rippley and Carey lead the Wildcats with 19 and 11 goals, respectively, and rank 1-2 in points, with Rippley totaling 22 and Carey 17.
Now 4-2, the Wildcats return to the field Saturday afternoon at Winthrop.
