Fresh off a weekend sweep of Toledo, Davidson baseball juniors Trevor Candelaria and Gabe Levy have earned weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The league announced Monday evening that Candelaria and Levy are the season's first A-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The first awards actually cover the season to date.
It's the third weekly award for Levy and the first for Candelaria.
In nine innings of mound work so far, the right-handed Levy is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA and a save. He's struck out 11, walked none and allowed five hits and one earned run. He entered the Feb. 20 season opener with Morehead State in the sixth inning and finished the final 3.1 innings, striking out four and allowing one hit.
In Saturday's start against Toledo, the Seattle native tossed 5.2 innings and struck out seven.
"Gabe has thrown well and been efficient in his outings," said coach Rucker Taylor. "Both weekends we've played three games in two days, so having Gabe eat up innings has been big for us. He's a competitive person, and it's fun to watch him perform. We have a lot of confidence in him."
Levy was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on May 6, 2019 and A-10 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24, 2020.
Candelaria, from Durango, Colo., is off to a hot start at the plate and delivered the game-winning two-run home run in the 11th inning of Sunday's dramatic 16-14 series finale win against the Rockets. The right fielder is leading the Wildcats with a .444 average, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .565 on-base percentage. He's also the team leader with four doubles and 18 total bases and has hit two home runs and driven in six.
Aside from his performance at the plate, he also jumped to make a runs-saving catch at the wall Sunday in the third inning, his latest in a series of outfield highlights.
"Trevor has played exceptionally well this season, offensively and defensively," said Taylor. "He's made three great plays in the outfield and has put together a lot of quality plate appearances. He's a great teammate, and our whole program is happy for him to receive this public recognition."
Levy, Candelaria and the Wildcats are back in action Tuesday afternoon when they meet Duke at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
