DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson volleyball team continues its Atlantic 10 slate this weekend, as the 'Cats welcome the VCU Rams to campus for a back-to-back weekend series. The Wildcats will take on the Rams first at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night and then wrap up the weekend with a 4:30 p.m. first serve on Saturday. Live statistics for this weekend's matches can be found at davidsonwildcats.com/coverage.
LAST TIME OUT... Davidson began its A-10 schedule last weekend, taking on the Saint Louis Billikens for a three-match series in the Gateway to the West. The 'Cats dropped all three matches, but took one set from SLU, who is currently atop the Atlantic 10's West Division standings. The weekend saw rookie Jessie Doyal work her way into the Wildcats' offensive arsenal, as the freshman set new career highs for herself, dishing 11 assists in match one and then 14 in match two. On the weekend, the Georgia native finished with double-digit assists in each match and totaled 36 assists.
THE MARCH OF THE ROOKIES... In addition to Doyal's strong outing, Davidson's other three freshmen are also making a statement this year. Libero Bella Brady made a strong impression among the A-10 in the opening week of the season, as the Florida native was named the league's Rookie of the Week back on February 1. Through five matches, Brady has 70 digs and 16 assists, and has reached double-figures in digs in all five of Davidson's matches thus far. In the back row, Sophia Hritz had herself a breakout weekend, recording a new career-high 17 digs in match two against the Billikens. Texas native and fellow rookie Sola Omonije also had a strong second match against SLU, as she recorded a career-high eight kills and .263 attack percentage.
ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK... Davidson's arsenal of outside attackers and middle blockers is a key component to the Wildcat offense this season, with Annalyse Kitzberger, Hattie Rodriguez and Madeline Wynn combining for 103 points in five matches. The trio averages a combined 5.63 kills per set, while Wynn has a team-high nine block assists and two solo blocks.
ALL-TIME VS. VCU... Since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2014-15, Davidson has yet to defeat the VCU Rams. The 'Cats last battled the Rams to five sets in 2016, and will look to take down the A-10 foe for the first time in program history this weekend.
