NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Davidson women's lacrosse team continues to make a splash among the Atlantic 10 in the early goings of the 2021 season, as two more Wildcats have been honored with the league's weekly awards. This week, sophomore Amanda Monahan earned the A-10's Defensive Player of the Week, while rookie Julianne Carey was named the Rookie of the Week for the second-straight time.
On a 1-0 week for the 'Cats, Monahan picked up the second win of her career, in just her third career start. The Massachusetts native had nine saves and allowed just five goals in 55 minutes of work to finish the day with a .643 save percentage. Monahan led the Wildcats' defense to hold the Pirates to just six goals in a 15-6 victory against ECU on Friday night, and with the win, Davidson improved to 2-1 on the year. To date, Monahan has 22 saves this season, tied for most among the Atlantic 10's netminders.
Carey has won her second Rookie of the Week honor in as many weeks this season, as the Pennsylvania native recorded a career-high three points, off one assist and two goals against the Pirates. Helping the 'Cats pick up a win over ECU, Carey also had a career-high six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
