Bunch Named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week

Davidson junior goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch has been named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Bunch earned the shutout and had two saves while playing all 90 minutes in Sunday's 1-0 season-opening win at Western Carolina.
"Mary Grace came back strong after the break and continues to put the work in at training with her goalkeeping unit," said coach Adam Denton. "Everyone associated with the program is very pleased for her and the team to start the year with this award. Mary Grace would be the first to thank her teammates for their part in this achievement."
The weekly honor is the third of Bunch's career. Her saves Sunday — both near the top of the frame — came in the second half before and after a Western Carolina corner kick.
Bunch earned A-10 Second Team honors a year ago and ranked second in the A-10 in saves percentage (.875) and goals against average (0.57).
She and the Wildcats will be back in action Thursday on the road at Appalachian State.
