DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After a six-game layoff, the Davidson volleyball team will return to action this weekend to begin Atlantic 10 Conference play with a three-match series in Saint Louis. The 'Cats will play two matches on Saturday, at 1 and 7 p.m., before playing the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. Coverage for this weekend's matches can be found at davidsonwildcats.com/coverage.
THIS SEASON... The 'Cats are off to a 1-1 start this season, trouncing Jacksonville University in three sets back on January 22, before falling in three to regional rival Charlotte, on January 24. Hattie Rodriguez has led the brigade, averaging 3.83 kills per set, and tallying a team-high 20 kills. In two sets played, Annalyse Kitzberger has also been solid for Davidson, as the junior has 10 kills and just one error on 18 attempts (.500). Sydney Champaigne continues to quarterback the Wildcats' offense, with the senior dishing 50 assists already this season, and averaging 8.33 assists per set.
LEAVE YOUR MARK... Freshman Bella Brady has already made a strong impression among the A-10 this year, as the Florida native was named the league's Rookie of the Week back on February 1. Hailing from the Sunshine State, Brady has stepped into an immediate impact role for the 'Cats, starting as the team's libero for the first two matches of the 2020-21 season. As libero, she helped Davidson open up the year with a three-set sweep over Jacksonville University on Friday, Jan. 22. In her college volleyball debut against the Dolphins, Brady recorded a match-high 17 digs to pair with two service aces. Later that weekend, she set a new career-high with another match-best 19 digs, along with three assists, against the Charlotte 49ers.
AGAINST THE BILLIKENS... Since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2014-15, Davidson is 2-9 in the all-time series with Saint Louis. Last beating the Billikens in 2017, the 'Cats have dropped the last four matches to their A-10 foe. Both of Davidson's victories against SLU have come in 3-2 wins.
ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK... Davidson's arsenal of outside attackers is a key component to the Wildcat offense this season, with Annalyse Kitzberger, Hattie Rodriguez and Malia Kay combining for 39 points in two matches. The trio averages a combined 7.17 kills per set, while Kay and Rodriguez also lead the team with three blocks apiece.
