DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will stick a tee in the ground for the first time in almost a year when it heads to Alabama for the 2021 Mobile Bay Collegiate February 14-16 at Magnolia Grove Golf Course.

The 14-team/54-hole event hosted by South Alabama, will also feature UAB, Indiana, Louisville, Illinois State, Toledo, Illinois, Kansas State, Kent State, Lipscomb, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky and Michigan.

Picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll, Davidson will be paired with Kent State and Michigan in the opening round with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. off the first tee.

Under the direction of head coach Tim Straub, the Wildcats return their entire starting lineup from last year's squad that posted five Top-5 showings, including a pair of runner-ups, before the season was shortened due to COVID-19.

Straub, who is in his 20th season at the helm, has guided Davidson to four Top-5 finishes in the Atlantic 10 Championship since joining the league in 2015. In addition to the 'Cats' capturing the 2018 title, their first in 50 years, they came home second in 2019, earning him his second straight A-10 Coach-of-the-Year honor.

A year ago, the Wildcats were led by Alex Ross, who recorded six Top-5s in seven events, while posting a 71.50 stroke average. Along with climbing inside the Top-40 of the Golfstat National Rankings, the 2018 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year earned All-Region honors and was selected a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America scholar.

Juniors Viraj Garewal (73.92 career stroke average), Dean Naime (74.35) and Clayton Tribus (75.10) along with sophomore Brian Garrett (74.94) are also back for Davidson, which is scheduled to compete in six events this spring.

The Wildcats also welcome the addition of newcomers Alex Heffner (Harrisburg, N.C.) and Ben Morehead (Charlotte, N.C.).

Ross, Garewal, Tribus, Garrett and Heffner will be in Davidson's starting lineup for the spring opener, while Cole Wilder will compete as an individual.

Up Next
Davidson will enjoy a two-week break before heading to Historic Pinehurst No. 2 for the Wake Forest Invitational March 1-2.
