CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Davidson Wildcats cruised to their eighth win of the season on Monday night, downing the Western Carolina Catamounts 68-46 from inside The Ramsey Center.
Three 'Cats scored in double figures for the fifth time this season, as Suzi-Rose Deegan led the way with a game-high 17 points off 6-of-10 shooting. Elle Sutphin was right behind Deegan with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while senior Cassidy Gould also reached double-digits with 12 points of her own and a 2-of-5 effort from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats took off from the jump, starting the game on a 6-0 scoring run and shot 58.3 percent through the first quarter to establish an early 19-8 lead. The Catamounts would cut their deficit down to eight to start the second frame, after scoring three straight points, but two free throws and a three-pointer from Gould pushed the Wildcat lead back to up to 13.
After heading into halftime with a 31-18 advantage, Davidson's offense ignited into another 50 percent shooting effort in the third, including a 17-4 scoring run and four made three-pointers from Cameron Tabor, Adelaide Fuller, Deegan and Gould that put the game out of reach.
With a 58-30 lead and 10 minutes left to play, the Wildcats shot 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to solidify the 22-point road victory.
Overall, Davidson edged out the Catamounts 43-37 on the glass and scored 15 second chance points, compared to Western Carolina's eight.
