KINGSTON, R.I. – Patrick Agyemang scored a pair of goals to lift Rhode Island to a 3-1 victory over Davidson in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday evening at the URI Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats conclude the season 9-7-2 overall, while the second-seeded Rams advance to next weekend's semifinals 10-4-2.
Agyemang, one of the league's top offensive threats, put Rhody up 1-0 at the 30:15 mark. His ninth score of the campaign came when he redirected an Edvin Akselsen header following a corner kick.
Just prior to the half, Rhode Island pushed its margin to 2-0 off an Isak Oystese strike that deflected off a Davidson defender and then the left post.
The Wildcats had a pair of chances midway through the opening half, but were unable to capitalize. In the 20th minute, Lucas Hauth's shot from in front sailed just high of frame and not long after Henry Howell's left-footed rip was saved by the diving Stefan Schmidt.
Playing in his final collegiate contest, Howell paced the 'Cats with four shots.
Two minutes into the second half, Davidson's Luke Bryant took advantage of a poor clearance by the Rhode Island defense and found the back of the net with a left-footed blast to cut the deficit in half.
In the 68th minute, Agyemang tracked down an Akselsen shot that caromed off the right post leaving the forward an open net for his second score of the night.
Giacomo Piccardo led both keepers with seven saves for the Wildcats.
