Wildcats Ousted at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. -- In their second meeting in three days, the Davidson Wildcats fell 3-0 to the VCU Rams from the Stuart C. Siegel Center on Sunday afternoon.
The first set of the day saw more overtime volleyball action, after the 'Cats and Rams battled to a 31-29 set one result on Friday night, as the Rams took today's first set 29-27. VCU turned up the heat in set two, winning 25-14, before closing out the day with a 25-23 third set victory.
Overall, the Wildcats swung .169 compared to VCU's .319 attacking percentage. VCU's own Jasmine Knight was nearly unstoppable at the net, recording 20 kills on 25 attempts with just two errors (.720).
For the 'Cats, junior Madeline Wynn had a steady performance finishing the day with six kills on 12 attempts while Bella Brady had a match-high 17 digs. Senior Hattie Rodriguez ended the day with 10 kills while Anela Davis and Sola Omonije combined for seven blocks at the net.
Davidson led for the majority of set one, and even reached set-point with a 24-21 advantage. From there, VCU stormed back on a three-point run to tie the game at 24-apiece. After exchanging four more set-point opportunities, the Rams closed out the frame with back-to-back kills from Knight to seal the deal.
The Wildcats will return to action for their penultimate weekend of regular season play on Friday and Sunday, taking on Rhode Island and Fordham on the road.
