DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore defensive end Jonathan Hammond picked up Davidson's first PFL Weekly Award of the 2021 season. The Dunwoody, Ga. native was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with San Diego's Kama Kamaka.
Hammond's sack as time expired helped Davidson improve to 2-0 in PFL play with a 35-28 victory at Stetson. He finished the game with four tackles, three of those behind the line of scrimmage totaling 16 yards. The 2020-21 PFL Defensive Freshman of the Year had two sacks, including the game-ending sack and another on Stetson's drive to start the fourth quarter that helped force a punt in Davidson territory.
Kamaka's strip-scoop-and-score late in the third quarter tied the game and was part of San Diego's come-from-behind 27-24 PFL victory against St. Thomas, Saturday. Kamaka tackled the St. Thomas quarterback to force the fumble, scooped up the loose ball and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to level the score at 24-24. He also had six tackles (three solo) in the win.
