Wildcats Swim Past Patriots, Pirates in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Wins over George Mason and East Carolina marked the second and final day of the Richmond Duals for Davidson swimmers and divers Saturday.
The Davidson men led two-day opponent George Mason by 11 points entering Saturday's events and won 216-194. Meanwhile, the Wildcat women swam past ECU by a 197-77 margin.
Owen Curry and Miles Charles, this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, led the Davidson men with two wins. Charles took the 50 fly and 100 fly in 23.10 and 50.72, respectively, while Curry won the 400 IM in 4:09.26 and the 500 free in 4:45.73. Cael McLaren swam out front in the 100 breast (58.29), and Wildcats Ben McClain, Guil Ware, Ty McLaren and Ian Brann won the 200 free relay (1:24.36).
For the Wildcat women, Martha Tripsa won the 50 free (24.54) and 100 fly (58.42), while Shelby Stanley took first in the 100 free (53.29). Siena Senn led the pack in the 500 free (5:07.78), and Stanley, Abby Francis, Selena Nishihata and Kate Pottle won the 200 free relay (1:38.02).
Wildcats who swam out front in events ECU did not enter were: Senn (200 free), Stanley (200 fly), Hope Carpenter (100 back), Lila McGrath (200 back), Sylvia Stewart Bates (400 IM) and the 400 medley relay of Julia Goodhead, Hannah Gould, Chale Jacks and Tripsa.
