‘Cats Knock Off Saint Louis, 3-1

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Isabel Decker led three Davidson players in double figures with a match-high 15 kills as the Wildcats knocked off Saint Louis, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-11), in Atlantic 10 volleyball action Saturday evening in Chaifetz Pavilion.
In addition to eight total blocks, Anela Davis added 11 kills connecting on .500 of her attempts, while Sola Omonije finished with 10 kills for the 'Cats, who recorded 57 kills and 13 blocks in all.
Jessie Doyal recorded another double-double (27 assists, 14 digs) and Bella Brady led the way defensively with 18 digs.
Davidson (9-9, 5-3 A-10) broke a 10-10 deadlock in the opening set with a 6-1 spurt capped by a Madeline Wynn kill to go in front 16-11. The Billikens responded to even the score and later closed with an 8-2 run to take the first, 25-22.
In addition to hitting .387 in game two, the Wildcats grabbed control midway through the frame and put the set away with an 8-3 streak to close, highlighted by four kills from Malia Kay.
The third set featured an unbelievable 17 ties and five lead changes before Davidson got consecutive finishes from Davis and Hattie Rodriguez to take the game, 27-25, and its first lead in the match.
The Wildcats carried their momentum into the fourth set cruising to a 25-11 set win and clinching just their third win over the Billikens since joining the league in 2014. Davidson connected on .455 of its swings in the fourth.
Maya Taylor and Delaney Rice paced Saint Louis (12-9, 5-3 A-10) with 12 kills each.
