Wildcats Made the Grade During the Spring Semester
6/17/2020 2:42:00 PM | General
Despite the unprecedented circumstances of the spring semester, Davidson scholar-athletes excelled in the classroom, while completing much of their studies under quarantine restrictions.
The COVID-19 pandemic provided unique challenges, as students left campus in mid-March and did not return. But the Wildcats responded, with more than half of scholar-athletes (288) earning at least a 3.5 GPA in the semester.
In fact, 91 Wildcats received a 3.9 or higher, and 51 finished with a perfect 4.0.
"The overall academic performance of our scholar-athletes this spring semester, and really the entire year, was nothing short of incredible," said Director of Athletics Chris Clunie. "I do not think people realize just how challenging these last few months have been for so many of our scholar-athletes. They have had to deal with everything from stress, pressure and financial hardship to medical uncertainty, spotty internet and distracting environments. I am extremely proud of our scholar-athletes – they do athletics the right way and they are resilient."
The women's cross country team finished the spring with a cumulative team GPA of 3.51, marking the fourth straight year the team has led the department.
All 21 Davidson teams finished with at least a 3.0 GPA in the spring semester, led by the 3.74 of women's swimming and diving. The field hockey and volleyball teams compiled 3.7 GPAs, and women's lacrosse posted a 3.69. The 3.62 marks of men's golf and men's soccer led the Wildcat men's teams, with men's swimming and diving next at 3.58.
