DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head wrestling coach Andy Lausier announced the trio of senior Will Baldwin, junior Kyle Gorant and sophomore Gavin Henry as team captains for the upcoming campaign.
"There is nothing more powerful for the development of our program than organic leadership. Will, Kyle, and Gavin are going to take control of the steering wheel of Davidson Wrestling – their expectation for this team completely aligns with that of the coaching staff," said Lausier.
Baldwin, the lone senior on the roster next season, just completed his first full competitive season at 149 pounds. The Hendersonville, N.C., native ended last year on a high note, earning a 12-0 major decision in the consolation round of the 2020 Southern Conference Championship.
Gorant returns as the team-leader in wins after just two seasons with a career mark of 31-23. Hailing from Coopersburg, Pa., Gorant finished his second campaign on the podium, placing third at 133 pounds at SoCon's in March.
Henry has made an immediate impact on the wrestling program since returning from an injury in January. The Union City, Pa., native went .500 in his first season on the collegiate mats and placed third at 184 pounds at the SoCon Championship.
"Each one of these new captains will play a huge role in the advancement of Davidson Wrestling, and I am confident that this new privilege will not only positively impact our team, but also enhance their own respective careers"
The three captains were chosen by the coaching staff of Lausier, Joey Dance and Chad Walsh.
