Spring Senior Scholar-Athlete Spotlight: Delaney Guhman
4/30/2020 10:30:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse
Gavin McFarlin- Associate SID
Thirty-three seniors were on Davidson Wildcat rosters as this spring began, and though their 2020 seasons were abbreviated, their contributions to their respective teams, the overall athletics program and college itself make them worthy of recognition. Each Tuesday and Thursday, we will feature members of the class of 2020 as part of the Senior Spring Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.
Name: Delaney Guhman
Sport you competed in: Women's Lacrosse
What is your major/minor: Psychology
What was your favorite class and why: My favorite class was my neuropsychology seminar that I took this past fall, because it was student taught, and my first neuropsych class.
Where are you completing your studies this semester: From home in Greensboro, N.C.
Though it was cut short, what will you remember most about your senior season: My favorite moment was definitely playing in the goal at Chapel Hill. UNC has always been my favorite team, so it was great to be able to play on the field against players and a coach whom I admire.
If you had to choose, what was the defining moment of your athletic career: My defining career moment was when we beat Elon, by holding them to just one goal in the second half. I was glad to be able to have three saves in the final minutes to seal the win.
What makes a Davidson scholar-athlete different: Davidson scholar athletes have an instant family when they arrive on campus. We build bonds as first-years with our upperclassmen as our role models, and becoming mentors by the time we are seniors.
You can invite any three people to dinner, who is joining you: If I could invite three people to dinner, I would invite the other three lacrosse seniors because we didn't have enough time together.
Most memorable college moment outside of competition: My most memorable college moment outside of competition was being a part of Connor Eating House, and helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.
What lessons from sports has helped you deal with the unusual situation of the spring semester: A lesson that has helped me deal with the situation this semester is the ability to move forward after a defeat.
What are you most proud of from your time as a Wildcat: I think that my most proud moment as a Wildcat was being voted captain by my teammates.
Who do you want to thank for their support: I would like to thank my parents, my siblings, my coaches, and my teammates.
What's next for you: I plan on furthering my education, and eventually become a psychiatrist.
