Gavin McFarlin- Associate SID
Thirty-three seniors were on Davidson Wildcat rosters as this spring began, and though their 2020 seasons were abbreviated, their contributions to their respective teams, the overall athletics program and college itself make them worthy of recognition. Each Tuesday and Thursday, we will feature members of the class of 2020 as part of the Senior Spring Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.
Name: Shannon Blee
Sport you competed in: Women's Lacrosse
What is your major/minor: Biology/Hispanic Studies
What was your favorite class and why: My favorite class was Healthcare in Zambia because it was immersive experience, in which we were able to learn in a very hands on manner and Dr.Case was an amazing professor.
Where are you completing your studies this semester: At home in Baltimore.
Though it was cut short, what will you remember most about your senior season: I will remember the ODU game the most because it was a game where everyone truly was just having fun playing the sport we all love. It was one of those games you could not stop smiling after.
If you had to choose, what was the defining moment of your athletic career: The Elon game my freshman year because there were limited subs and I was playing the majority of the game, so it was the first time I started to feel comfortable and confident playing on the field.
What was your favorite trip you took as a team and why: Richmond for A-10 Championship two years ago because we went to a park and played some fun games and then we won our first playoff game against VCU.
What makes a Davidson scholar-athlete different: Being a scholar-athlete at Davidson is different because we do not have any kind of privilege as a student-athlete. We are expected to perform both on the field and in the classroom. Even when traveling, we are constantly doing work and trying to stay on top of all our classes.
Most memorable college moment outside of competition: Teaching the kids Spanish at Davidson Elementary School because they always brighten up my day and spending time with my roommates late at night.
What lessons from sports has helped you deal with the unusual situation of the spring semester: Lacrosse has taught me how to be resilient and how to persevere through every challenging situation. It taught be how to be adaptive and how to continue pushing yourself and working hard no matter what circumstances or challenges you are facing.
What are you most proud of from your time as a Wildcat: I am most proud of all the friendships I made throughout my years on the team. I know these friendships will last way beyond my time at Davidson. WLDC is a special community and I am proud to be a part of it.
Who do you want to thank for their support: I want to thank all of my coaches who have supported me along the way and helped me grow so much as a person and a player. I also want to thank all of my teammates, my family, and everyone in the WLDC community for always supporting me and helping me to become the best player and person I could be.
What's next for you: I accepted a fellowship with Emory Cancer Institute for next year and I will be applying to medical school.
