NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fresh off a 10-strikeout performance Saturday, Davidson pitcher Blake Hely has been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
It's Hely's first A-10 honor and marks the second straight week a Wildcat has received the award, as fellow sophomore Gabe Levy was recognized on Feb. 24.
"Blake took strides this summer and came into the fall with a commitment to himself and the team," said head coach Rucker Taylor. "He's taken his effort to a new level, and it's great for him to have success come from his decisions. We have some guys executing well right now, and he's certainly a big part of that."
Against Lafayette, Hely threw seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out two batters in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings while earning his second win.
"His ability to attack the zone with everything while maintaining a very aggressive tempo was a lot of fun to watch," said pitching coach Parker Bangs.
Three starts into his second season, Hely is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 19 innings.
