DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson earned a 7-0 win Thursday afternoon against Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's in women's tennis on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
Davidson moved to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in league matches, while sending SJU to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in A-10 matches.
"I am so proud of this group for how they competed today with all the adversity," said head coach Susanne Depka. "It was an honor coaching this group and I am so glad the seniors (Alexandra Abele and Samantha Armas) got a last match. I have enjoyed being their coach for the last four years and love them dearly."
The Wildcats opened the match by taking all three doubles positions for the third time this season. The top team of Samantha Armas and Elizabeth Truluck pulled out a 7-5 win to move to 2-1 on the season. At No. 2, the team of Alyssa Hahn and Emma Heiderscheit nailed down a 6-4 decision giving them their first win together, while at No. 3, the pair of Nicole Krykanov and Franny Shea cruised to a 6-0 win for their team-leading fourth victory on the season.
In singles action, the 'Cats picked up wins in straight sets in five of the six matches to seal up the team victory. Truluck (No. 2, 6-1, 6-2), Armas (No. 3, 6-0, 6-0) and Heiderscheit (No. 4, 6-0, 6-2) all carried over their doubles wins and picked up singles wins as well. Heiderscheit won her sixth of the season, while Truluck and Armas each collected their fourth wins apiece.
At No. 5, Mira Gladstone scored a 6-2, 6-1 win to run her record to 5-4 on the season, while Josie Schaffer gave up just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 decision to push her record to 5-3 on the campaign.
Rounding out the singles winners for the Wildcats Abele at No. 1, who needed a super tie-breaker to finish off her seventh straight victory. She won the first set, 6-3 before narrowly falling 7-5 in the second set, but came back to net an 11-9 decision in the super tie-breaker to give the senior a team-best 7-2 record.
