DAVIDSON — It's time for Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball.
Â
The Davidson Wildcats open league play Friday, which continues a stretch of 11 home contests in 12 matches.
Â
Now, everything left on the schedule is in the A-10, and the Wildcats begin the 14-match league slate — and five straight at home in the A-10 — against Duquesne Friday at 7 p.m. A 1 p.m. match with La Salle is set for Sunday.
Â
"The team is excited about beginning A-10 competition," said coach Chris Willis. "We're fortunate to begin this portion of our season at home and want to take advantage of all that entails. Duquesne is a team that has demonstrated consistency over the years, and La Salle made huge strides over the last two seasons that put them in the mix near the top of the conference. This weekend will be a good barometer of where we are as a program. We're looking forward to the challenge."Â
Â
Davidson junior Ellie Crosley leads the A-10 with a .376 hitting percentage. Freshman Madeline Wynn, with two straight A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, is third in hitting percentage (.345) and fourth in blocks per set (1.24). Junior Sydney Champaigne's 8.84 assists per set rank third in the league, while senior Josie Treadwell is fourth in digs per set (4.16) and Hattie Rodriguez is sixth in kills per set (3.02).
Â
Â
Scouting the Dukes
Duquesne (3-4) is coming off a 2-1 weekend at West Virginia's Mountaineer Invitational, where the Dukes posted wins against Navy and Eastern Kentucky.
Â
Liz Wayne is among the A-10 leaders in hitting percentage (.347), while Summer Slade ranks eighth in kills per set (2.96). Setter Dani Suiter, a second-team A-10 pick a year ago, averages 5.74 assists per set (8th).
Â
Â
Scouting the Explorers
Entering Friday's match at VCU, La Salle is 5-6. The Explorers went 1-1 last weekend at the Villanova Classic, where they beat Delaware and lost to Princeton.
Â
Kathryn Wood leads the A-10 with 10.4 assists per set. Samantha Graver's 3.54 kills per set ranks third in the league, and Catherine Edgington is hitting .328 (4th). Â
