DAVIDSON — After playing seven of its first eight games out of town, the Davidson field hockey team is back at Belk Turf Field this weekend.
The Wildcats will host Atlantic 10 member La Salle on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and non-conference foe Miami (Ohio) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
"I know the team is feeling really excited to have both matches this weekend at Belk Turf Field," said head coach Zoe Almquist. "Even beyond playing both matches at home, it is nice to play both matches in the same place — something we've only gotten to do one other time so far this year (against Merrimack and Longwood at Longwood). The support we get from the Davidson community is fantastic, and our group can't wait to channel that positive energy going into Friday evening's matchup against La Salle. After two really close, incredibly tough conference losses, we are really looking forward to taking on an A-10 opponent on our home turf."
Last weekend, Davidson lost 3-2 at Saint Francis (Pa.) in overtime, then went to a shootout in a 2-1 loss at Lock Haven.
Valerie Hajek, McGee Roman and Julia Smith have combined for six goals and 17 points to lead Davidson.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle is 3-4 and coming off a 2-1 loss to Georgetown on Sept. 22.
Top scorer Rialee Allen has four goals and is one of five A-10 players to score at least four so far this year.
La Salle has won the last three meetings in the series, including 3-2 last October in Philadelphia. That day, then-senior Leigha Nortier and current junior Sydney McKenna scored the Wildcat goals.
The Wildcats' last win over La Salle came in 2015, when they emerged with a 2-1 win at Belk Turf Field.
Scouting the RedHawks
Miami (Ohio) is coming off two straight perfect seasons in the MAC, which have led to back-to-back NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances.
The Red Hawks enter Friday's match at Appalachian State 4-4 after a 5-2 loss to No. 11 Northwestern on Sept. 22. Allie Grace Joyner leads Miami with six goals and 13 points.
Miami won the last meeting with Davidson 4-1 during the 2017 campaign.
