Volleyball Challenged During the Wildcat Classic

DAVIDSON — Davidson volleyball coach Chris Willis wanted his team to be tested in its final outings before the 14-match Atlantic 10 schedule commences next weekend, and the Wildcats were at the two-day Wildcat Classic.

Davidson (5-8) closed the weekend Saturday with a 3-2 loss to Wofford and a 3-0 defeat to High Point. Â

"This weekend really provided a good barometer for us to know what to work on going into A-10 play," said Willis. "Each team challenged us in different ways, and we know we have to get better in certain ways to compete in the coming weeks."

High Point went 3-0 in Davidson and defeated the Wildcats 25-17, 25-15 and 25-19 in the event's final match. Hattie Rodriguez led the Wildcats with 12 kills, while Sydney Champaigne had 24 assists and Josie Treadwell 13 digs.

In the Wildcats' first match Saturday, Davidson was unable to capitalize on a 2-1 lead over Wofford. After dropping the first set 25-23, the Wildcats cruised to a 25-16 win in the second and held off the Terriers for a 25-23 win in the third. Wofford, however, responded with a 25-18 win in the fourth and a 15-6 win in the fifth.

Caroline Mohler led Davidson with 10 kills, while Remi Lehnertz had eight and Ellie Crosley seven.
