CARY, N.C. – In a 14-team field with six ranked inside the Top-50 nationally, Davidson was nine shots out of third place when the second round of the 2019 Stitch Intercollegiate was halted due to severe weather in the Triangle area Friday afternoon.
The two-day event is being play on the Par 72, 6,973-yard MacGregor Downs Country Club layout.
After opening with 294, the Wildcats (+3) were three-under through holes 10-11 on their afternoon round when play was suspended.
No. 21 Louisville is currently atop the team leaderboard at 11-under, five strokes clear of No. 3 Wake Forest (-6) and No. 20 Liberty (-6). No. 26 NC State, the tournament host, is fourth at 4-under, while No. 34 South Florida (+1) rounds out the Top-5 at one-over, one in front of No. 41 Campbell (+2) and Virginia Tech (+2).
Davidson, which entered the tournament with a pair of wins and six Top-3 showings this season, is in the middle of the pack, just two out of fifth place.
Coming off a third-place showing at the Irish Creek Collegiate, Jack Lang (-2), this week's A-10 Player of the Week, is leading the way for the Wildcats in ninth place, four off the pace.
Viraj Garewal (+1|T-24) and Alex Ross (+2|T-32) were also under par in their afternoon rounds before the siren sounded.
The Demon Deacons' Cameron Young (-6) leads the 84-player field by one shot.
Due to the weather, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes with play resuming at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
