DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its final home match of the season, Davidson fell to UNCG Wednesday afternoon in a 5-2 decision in men's tennis at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats fell to 11-8 overall and finished their home slate of matches at 6-4 on the season. The Spartans ran their overall record to 7-12.
UNCG took the doubles point after a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 1 and 2, then went on to earn singles victories at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 for the match win.
The dou of Douglas MacIntosh and Camden Mazzoni registered their team-leading ninth win of the season after a 6-3 decision at No. 3 doubles, their first win together at that position.
Scoring the two team points in singles for the 'Cats were the freshmen tandem of Sam Kavarana and Brooks Green. Coming off his third A-10 Rookie of the Week honor Tuesday, Kavarana shined again as he rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3. The win gave him a 12-4 record on the season, tied for tops on the team.
Matching Kavarana for team honors in wins was Green after he scored a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5. The freshman ran his overall record to 12-6, with a 6-3 mark at No. 5.
Davidson concludes the regular season with a trip to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State on Sunday.
