
Gorant, Trigg Named to SoCon All-Freshman Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –A pair of Davidson grapplers earned a spot on the Southern Conference All-Freshman team, announced by the league Thursday.
Wildcat rookies Kyle Gorant and Mitchell Trigg were voted on to the squad by the eight member institution coaches of the SoCon.
"I am so proud of Kyle and Mitchell," said head coach Andy Lausier. "They have worked enthusiastically hard and put in huge efforts all season to produce impressive freshmen campaigns. They are the future of Davidson wrestling."
Gorant, a 133-pounder from Coopersburg, Va., ended the regular season with the best record on the team, 15-10, and is tied with junior Conor Fenn with six pins. Gorant went 11-4 in dual matches this season and enters the postseason as a winner in six of his last eight bouts.
Wrestling at heavyweight, Trigg, the Foley, Minn., native was second on the team with 14 wins, going 14-13 with four falls. The rookie opened his career 5-0 including claiming the Freshman/Sophomore bracket at the season-opening Southeast Open.
Davidson returns to the mats Sunday, Mar. 10 for the SoCon Championship at Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C. on the campus of Appalachian State University.
