PINEHURST, N.C. – In addition to Clayton Tribus claiming individual medalist and classmate Viraj Garewal finishing runner-up, Davidson cruised to the 2019 Pinehurst Intercollegiate crown Sunday afternoon.
The 54-hole event was played on the Par 71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8 layout.
"I'm really proud of the guys and how they performed and battled through really tough playing conditions this weekend," said head coach Tim Straub after the team's largest margin of victory in school history.
Tribus (67-72-71), who led wire-to-wire en route to his first career title, finished the three-day tournament at 210 (-3). A native of Madison, Wisc., he was the only competitor in the 87-player field to finish under par.
Like Tribus, the Wildcats (285-287-287 = 859) led from start to finish as they captured the team trophy by 29 shots over Radford. The win was the third in the last nine tournaments for Davidson dating back to last season.
Garewal fired a final-round two-under 69 to finish at 213 (E), three back of his teammate.
Alex Ross (+6) and Jack Lang (+7) came home seventh and tied for eighth, respectively, while Hoke Carlton (+8 | T-11) recorded his second straight Top-15 showing.
Competing as an individual, Davidson's Will Simmons also turned in a solid performance, placing tied for 24th at 225 (74-73-78).
Up Next
The Wildcats will enjoy a two-week break before returning to tournament action at the Furman Collegiate March 22-24.
