DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson pulled out a close match at home vs. Gardner-Webb Tuesday evening, taking a 4-3 decision inside the Knobloch Tennis Center in men's tennis.
The doubles point proved to be the difference as both teams won three singles matches each. The Wildcats (4-2) tallied impressive wins of 6-1 and 6-1 at No. 2 and 3 positions in doubles to start the match vs. GWU (0-5).
The duo of Matthew Rose and Alexander Loope won their second in a row together and fourth on the season at No. 3, while Camden Mazzoni and Douglas McIntosh also won their fourth overall on the season.
Tied at 3-all in the match, McIntosh sealed up the winning team point by scoring a straight-set 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 6 for his third win in five matches this season.
Singles play featured four matches that went to three sets, as both teams won two each. For Davidson, Sam Kavarana came back from a set down to win a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 match at No. 3 and evened the team score at 3-3.
Mazzoni stayed perfect on the year with his personal-best fifth straight win at No. 4 when he took a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 decision.
Falling for the first time this season was Yash Parikh, who faced the No. 90 player in the nation and fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.
Davidson will next host a doubleheader with Wingate and N.C. A&T Saturday, Feb. 16.
