WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Katie Hines and Bianca Nolde-Lopez each broke their own school records at the season opening JDL Early Bird Invite Sunday at JDL Fast Track.
Nolde-Lopez ran away with the 400-meter run in record-setting fashion, stopping the clock in 57.09 seconds for the win, program and meet record. Her previous mark, 57.70 seconds, was set in her last indoor meet at the Atlantic 10 Championship last February.
The 400 also featured a strong showing by freshman Rachel Horowitz, who placed fourth with a time of 58.70 seconds. Classmate Nella Tsudis and sophomore Sophia Ackerman also placed in the top seven for the 'Cats.
Hines raced down the home stretch in 7.86 seconds over 60-meters to reset the mark. Her previous best of 7.90 was set at the 2019 Camel City Invite.
Joining Nolde-Lopez with wins were junior Grace Loehr and Eleni Daughters in the 500 and 800, respectively. Loehr snapped the tape in 1:18.06, while Daughters cleared the field by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 2:14.58.
Sophomore Meghan Corso was the final qualifier to make the 60-meter hurdle finals and nearly broke her own school record in the process. Corso placed fifth overall with a time of 9.23 seconds, just .03 shy of her record run set at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship last February.
The Wildcats had a strong showing in the 3,000-meters led by senior Maddie Hunter. Hunter placed fourth, stopping the clock in 10:26.35, just ahead of sophomore teammate Rachel Shapiro (10:32.09). In her collegiate indoor debut, freshman Emily Henkel placed seventh in 10:46.72.
A trio of 'Cats placed well in the 200-meter dash led by sophomore Marquia Humphries 26.08-second performance. Freshman Kate Carnevale (26:38) and senior Saidah Rahman (26.93) also placed in the top eight.
Three rookies competed well in the mile – Kelsey Troutman and Breila Fuller with top three finishes and Alexandra Cisneros in fifth.
On the field side, freshman Hannah Kanjian had a strong debut, clearing 1.65 meters (5'5) for third. Senior Makayla Binter cleared 1.60 meters to tie for sixth. The veteran also took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.31 meters (17'5.25).
