The induction ceremonies will take place Saturday, February 22, with details to follow at a later date.
Kara Koehrn '06 – Women's Soccer
Koehrn left the program as one of its top players all-time. She shares the record for career goals (39) and the single-season mark (19), which she accomplished during an outstanding senior year. She finished her career ranked third overall in total points with 91. Koehrn is one of just three players to be named Southern Conference Player of the Year, joining Wildcat hall of famers Claudia Lombard and Allison Nozneksy. A four-time all-league pick, Koehrn was also selected to the Soccer Buzz All-Region Team after helping Davidson achieve its highest-ever regional ranking in 2005. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named Koehrn to its all-region third team in 2005 as well. Also outstanding in the classroom, the biology major earned a spot on the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Second Team. On top of earning numerous postseason hardware, Koehrn led the Wildcats to an undefeated league record (9-0-1) in 2005, while earning an individual top-10 national ranking for goals per game (0.90).
Jay Heafner '06 – Baseball
Heafner had a stellar campaign during his junior season with the Wildcats, hitting at a .448 clip that ranked second in the nation. The third baseman tallied a program-best 91 hits during 2005, and he also collected 142 total bases, which was first in single-season school history until 2017, when senior Will Robertson broke the record. In addition to carrying a hot bat, Heafner also served as the team's closer for three seasons. His 11 saves in 2004 was a program-best until broken during the 'Cats magical 2017 run by Westin Whitmire (13). Heafner also ranks fifth and eighth on the single-season ledger with eight saves in 2006 and six in 2005, and has the school record with 25 career saves. In total, Heafner, who was chosen as the Southern Conference Player of the Year and a third-team All-American, ranks in the Top 10 in seven single-season and eight career categories for hitting. In 2006, on the brink of his senior season, Heafner became the first (and to date, only) Wildcat ever selected as a Preseason All-American.
Brenna Burns '08 – Cross Country/Track
A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American selection, Brenna Burns was one of the most successful distance runners in school history. Upon her graduation, Burns was the school record holder on the cross-country trails in the 5K (17:39.22). In addition, she held the top indoor 3K (9:53.37), 5K (17:08.63), outdoor 5K (16:51.35) and 10K (35:48.41) marks. Along with being a two-time all-conference selection in cross country, Burns was the Southern Conference Indoor 3K Champion (2007), Outdoor 5K & 10K Champion (2008) and named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2007 SoCon Indoor Championships. A 2007 NCAA East Regional Qualifier in the 5K, Burns was also a Bryan Scholar and recipient of the Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship.
John Kilgo – Special Contributor
John Kilgo's roots to Davidson College go back to July 1966, when former college president Grier Martin convinced him to leave a job as columnist for The Charlotte News to become the first full-time sports information director for the Wildcats. It was an exciting time to be around Davidson's athletic department as Lefty Driesell built a national powerhouse in basketball and Homer Smith took the school's football team to the Tangerine Bowl to play Toledo. After working for Davidson, Kilgo returned to Charlotte to become news and sports director for Big WAYS Radio, the first true Top-40 radio station in the Carolinas and the top-rated station in Charlotte. In his 18 years there and in addition to his radio responsibilities, Kilgo started a chain of eight weekly newspapers that served Charlotte and surrounding areas, including North Mecklenburg. Kilgo moved across Charlotte to rival broadcaster Jefferson-Pilot in 1984, where he eventually became general manager of WBT Radio as well as general manager of J-P Sports Enterprises. Kilgo returned to the airwaves and Davidson College in 2000 as the "Voice of the Wildcats," a position he would hold for 18 years.
Mike Maloy – Men's Basketball
A two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year and three-time all-conference selection, Mike Maloy helped the Wildcats to three NCAA Tournament berths, including Elite 8 appearances in 1968 & 1969. In addition, Maloy was a two-time NCAA All-Regional selection and was named Southern Conference Tournament MVP in 1968. Maloy finished his career ranked third on Davidson's all-time scoring list and still owns the school record in career rebounds. Maloy averaged 19.3 points and 12.9 rebounds in his three varsity seasons. Maloy still ranks among Davidson's all-time leaders in scoring average, free throws made and rebounding average.
