Ross Leads ‘Cats at Mountaineer Invitational with Runner-Up Finish

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Alex Ross continued his impressive play as the junior posted a 54-hole total of 215 (71-73-71) to finish tied for second out of 81 competitors at the 2019 Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational.
The annual event was played on the Par 72, 7,308-yard Pete Dye Golf Club layout.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Ross got off to a fast start in his final round with three birdies on his first four holes to grab the outright lead. Following eight straight pars, the 2018 A-10 Rookie of the Year bogeyed his 13th and 14th holes before closing with four more pars.
Through two fall events, Ross has a pair of Top-5 finishes and a 71.67 stroke average.
Davidson (901 | + 37) closed with a final-round total of 292 (+4) to finish the 15-team field in sole possession of seventh place.
West Virginia (E) captured the team title by three shots over Florida Atlantic (+3), while overnight leader Kevin Scherr (213 | -3) was individual medalist.
Clayton Tribus (+12 | T-34th), Dean Naime (+16 | T-45th), Viraj Garewal (+18 | T-51st) and Ethan Hall (+19 | T-58th) were also in the Wildcat lineup this week.
Naime, a transfer from Colgate, enjoyed his best round as a Wildcat with an even-par 72 Tuesday.
