Alvarez, Hostetler Post Wins at the Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. –Davidson sophomore Daniel Alvarez led five men's track and field runners in the top eight spots of the 1,000-meter run at the Patriot Games Saturday at the George Mason Field House.
Alvarez led the Wildcats across the line in 2:30.98, just missing his personal-best time (2:30.53) at the BU Terrier Classic – done on a banked track. Freshman Josef Raphael Oettl was second in 2:32.32. Also placing for the 'Cats; Taylor Drake, Iain Anderson and Eli Minsky.
Also snapping the tape for Davidson was senior Jacob Hostetler in the 200-meter dash. The senior stopped the clock in 22.18 seconds. Hostetler also set a new personal best in the 60-meter dash finals, racing down the straight away in 7.07 seconds, taking third overall.
Wildcat rookie Bryce Kalsu was second overall and the first collegiate runner to cross the line in the 800-meter run. Kalsu recorded a time of 1:57.23 in the half mile as the first collegian to finish on the day.
Davidson placed two runners in the top four of the 500-meter run, freshman Cory Gaither and sophomore Max Higgins. Gaither came home in third overall, (1:08.03), just out-leaning Higgins, (1:08.08). Gaither also took fourth overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds.
Wildcat senior Dylan Carmack placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run, stopping the clock in 8:39.08.
A pair of rookies jumped into the mile run and were led by Nico Agosta's eighth place, 4:30.75 result. Fellow freshman Coleman Mitchell crossed the line in 10th overall with a time of 4:32.17.
The Wildcat 4x400-meter relay team of Gaither, Kalsu, Sean Caveney and Nick Peeples placed third with a time of 3:27.01.
Junior multi's athlete Stockton McGuire competed in multiple events. The Douglasville, Ga., native placed sixth in the long jump (6.04m), 11th overall in the hurdles (8.91 seconds).
The Davidson men's team returns to action Friday, Feb. 1 in the opening day of the Camel City Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
