Davidson freshman swimmer Thacher Scannell has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the fourth of the season for Scannell, who hails from Stamford, Conn.
In a home meet against UNCW on Jan. 11, Scannell posted wins in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events. He won the 500 in 4:40.54 and trimmed more than three seconds off his previous best in the 1,000, clocking in at 9:38.29. That moved him from ninth place into eighth on the Wildcats' all-time performers list.
Scannell's other A-10 weekly honors came on Nov. 6, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.
Scannell and the Wildcats return to action Saturday when they host William & Mary at 2 p.m. in Charles A. Cannon Pool.
