NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Senior Courtney Byler scored two first-half goals to lead Davidson to a 2-1 non-conference win at Yale Sunday afternoon at Johnson Field.
Davidson bounces back from Friday's 3-0 loss at UMass and improves to 4-6 on the season, while Yale falls to 4-5. The Wildcats have now won two of their last three.
Byler entered Sunday having scored two goals all season – one against Towson Aug. 26 and one against Longwood Sept. 26. But she scored on a penalty corner in the 15th minute off an assist from Caitlyn Gund, then made it 2-0 with a second goal at the 24-minute mark.
Byler is the fourth Wildcat to score at least two goals in a match this year. Kristin Kisa had 2 against LIU-Brooklyn and Saint Louis, while Leigha Nortier scored 3 against LIU-Brooklyn and Sydney McKenna scored 2 against Appalachian State.
Davidson goalkeeper Sarah Zeszotarski saved 10 of 11 shots, as Yale got on the board with a goal by Imogen Davies with 54:48 on the clock.
Up Next
Davidson returns home and to Atlantic 10 Conference play when the Wildcats host Lock Haven Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Postgame comments from coach Ginny Turner
This was a great win and overall we played very good team hockey. We moved the ball well and played solid team defense.
Courtney was an anchor in our midfield and helped us take advantage of our attacking opportunities.
I am proud of the team today for staying strong the entire 70 minutes.
