DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team heads into the 2018 season with a group of core veterans and a stable of new young talent ready to make their mark.
FAMILIAR FACES
Dylan Carmack returns as the top finisher from the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native led the 'Cats across the line, placing ninth overall at the A-10 Champs for his first All-Conference nod. Carmack also snapped the tape at the Mason XC Invitational. Alex Hazan and Jake Carver also return as scorers from last year's A-10's.
KEY LOSSES
Ian Robertson stepped up late last season, crossing the line in second for the 'Cats at the A-10 Championship. Ramsay Ritchie was an A-10 Performer of the Week selection for his win at the Queen City Invite.
A DOZEN NEW FACES
Head coach Renny Waldron brought in a deep crop of talent, adding 12 to the Class of 2022. The 23-man roster features two seniors, three juniors and six sophomores - setting up a formidable lineup in the years to come.
2018 OUTLOOK
Davidson was selected to finish ninth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, voted on by the league's coaches. Carmack and senior classmate William Jones will look to end their careers on a high note, while the young squad will grow and improve throughout the season.
WHERE CAN I SEE THEM?
The Wildcats open the season Saturday, Sep. 1 at the Spider Open hosted by Richmond where they will get a first hand look at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship course. The A-10 Champs are slated for Saturday, Oct. 27. From Richmond, Davidson will head to the ADIDAS XC Challenge (Sep. 14), the Louisville Sports Commission Classic (Sep. 29) and round out the tune-up stage of the schedule at the Royals Cross Country Challenge (Oct. 12). The NCAA Southeast Regional is nearby in Rock Hill, S.C. hosted by Winthrop, while the NCAA Championship heads to Madison, Wisc. (Nov. 17).
