Wrestling Earns Nine on SoCon Academic Honor Roll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Davidson wrestling team landed nine grapplers on the 2017-18 Southern Conference (SoCon) Academic honor roll, announced by the league office Tuesday.
The list comprised of four seniors, Will Cooley, Ryan Devlin, Tien Hunter and Dustin Runzo; a pair of juniors, Aidan Conroy and Tony Palumbo; sophomore Noah Satteffield and freshman Will Baldwin. Conroy, Cooley and Devlin all made the grade for the third consecutive academic year, while Hunter, Palumbo and Runzo returned for the second straight time.
In April, the Wildcats garnered National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I All-Academic team honors, placing 26th in the nation with a combined team grade point average of 3.14.
The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher while passing at least 24 hours in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic calendars. Associate members are eligible for the award for the first time this year.
