DAVIDSON, N.C. — Former Davidson women's basketball player Mackenzie Latt '18 has signed a professional contract to play in Portugal for Quinta Dos Lombos in the town of Carcavelos on the Atlantic coast, west of Lisbon, it was recently announced.
"We are very thrilled to have Mackenzie with us next season," said Jose Liete, the head coach of Quinta Dos Lombos. "She has an outstanding work ethic and will fit perfectly in our program. We welcome her to Lombos!" The club finished runner-up in the league championship last season with a record of 17-5.
A native of Richland, Mich., Latt left the program as one of its all-time best players after an outstanding four-year career. A 2017-18 A-10 All-Third Team pick, Latt's name is etched throughout the record books in 10 different categories, including ranking second all-time in rebounds (885) and made field goals, while finishing third in scoring (1,591) and fifth in blocks. Latt started every game she played in for her career, 117, while finishing with averages of 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds a game, both good for eighth-best all-time.
"I'm so excited and blessed to be able to play for Coach Liete and Quinta Dos Lombos this upcoming season," said Latt. "I'm looking forward to playing the game I love in Portugal and doing all I can to help the club be successful. I'm beyond grateful for this opportunity and am already itching to get over there and start working towards a championship. I'm thankful for all the people who have helped get me to this point in my career and as always, to God be the glory!"
As a senior this past season, the 6-foot-1 forward started all 30 games and paced the team by averaging 14.9 points and 8.2 rebounds a game (sixth in the A-10), while also finishing tops in made field goals (188, a career-high and fourth-most in a Wildcat single season), blocks (a career-high tying 31) and steals (54, a personal-best).
Latt registered eight double-doubles, the second-most in her career, to give her 27, while she scored in double figures 22 times to give her 86 for her career. In addition, the senior scored 20-plus points four times in her final season and ended her career with 14. Latt had games of 31 and 32 (a career-best) points, respectively, in leading Davidson to wins vs. UMass and at Rhode Island.
"We are extremely proud of Mackenzie, and could not be more excited for her next journey as a professional basketball player in Portugal," said Davidson women's basketball head coach Gayle Coats Fulks. "Mackenzie has proven to be an exceptional athlete and fierce competitor throughout her illustrious career at Davidson. Her competitive drive, stellar work ethic, and leadership skills will undoubtedly lead to her having a successful professional basketball career. I feel truly blessed that I had the opportunity to coach Mackenzie for a season, and it is definitely one of my most exciting moments as a coach to see one of my players achieve her goal of becoming a professional athlete. Mackenzie has proven that if you dedicate yourself to the process, the opportunities are limitless. I cannot wait to follow her career, and see her positive impact on her future teammates and coaches."
Latt graduated Cum Laude with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies. She was also a three-time A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree.
