
Men's XC and Track & Field Announce Class of 2022

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's cross country and track and field team is proud to announce the incoming Class of 2022. Quite possibly the most competitive class in program history, this year's group of incoming freshman boasts 10 state championships and some of the best high school marks and times ever in the history of Davidson College track and field recruiting classes.
"In our recruiting process we were able to get to know these young men and their families very well and we know that they bring a lot more to the track and field team than just their impressive accolades" said head coach Renny Waldron. "All of these individuals impressed our staff and existing team with their positive attitudes and high character. We are looking forward to seeing them flourish academically, athletically and socially over the next four years."
Presented in alphabetical order.
Alex Ackerman, Princeton High School, N.J. | Mid-Distance/Distance
Personal bests: 1600- 4:28, 3200- 9:39.
A member of the fifth place cross country team at the NXN regional, Ackerman will look to help the Wildcats in the distance events.
Nico Agosta, Parker Charter Essential School, Mass. | Mid-Distance/Distance
Personal bests: Mile- 4:25.
An excellent cross country runner, Agosta placed top five in the Massachusetts State Cross Country Championships three times (5th as a sophomore, 2nd as a junior and 3rd as a senior). Agosta will run the distance events for the Wildcats.
John Autry, Wake Forest High School, N.C. | Mid-Distance/ Distance
NAC6 Conference Champion in cross country.
Autry will look to help the Wildcats in the middle-distance and distance events. John will be joining his older, Bailey, as a proud member of the Wildcats cross country and track and field teams.
Chase Coley, Cary Academy, N.C. | Mid-Distance/Distance
Personal bests: 800- 1:58, 1600- 4:22
Chase was a member of two state championship 4x800 teams, and placed second in the 1600m to fellow teammate and incoming Davidson freshman Coleman Mitchell. Also a formidable cross country runner, Chase will look to contribute in the mid-distance and distance events.
Cory Gaither, South Iredell High School, N.C. | Sprints/Hurdles
Personal bests: 110H- 14.54, 300H- 37.18
One of the best hurdlers in North Carolina history, Gaither went undefeated in the 300 hurdles in his senior season. At the 2018 North Carolina 3A State Meet, Gaither broke the record for the 300 hurdles, running 37.18. Cory will run the short and long hurdles for Davidson as well as contend for a spot on the 4x400 relays. Cory played basketball in the winter for his high school, but will run indoor and outdoor track at Davidson.
Bryce Kalsu, Dripping Springs High School, Texas | Mid-distance/distance
Personal bests: 400- 49.99, 800- 1:53
Like Gaither, Bryce was a basketball player in the winter for his high school team but will focus his efforts on the track for the Wildcats. Bryce will run the mid-distance events for Davidson and comes in as one of the fastest 800m recruits in Davidson history.
Jonah Lane, Severna Park High School, Md. | Mid-Distance/distance
Personal bests: 800- 1:57, Mile- 4:16
While Jonah has run 4:16 for the full mile, he was also a member of the state winning cross country team in high school and placed fifth individually. Jonah will run the mid-distance events for the Wildcats, while also contributing to the cross country team in the fall.
George Lewis, Bolles High School | Distance
Personal bests: 3200- 9:35
A late bloomer who improved his 3200 time by 24 seconds this spring, Lewis will look to contribute for the Wildcats in the distance events and in cross country.
Noah Mikstay, John Jay High School, N.Y. | Jumps/Multis
Personal bests: High Jump- 6'5
Mikstay is the New York Section 1 Class A champion in the high jump and will participate in the high jump and the multi events for the Wildcats.
Eli Minsky, Grayslake Central High School, Ill. | Mid-Distance
Personal bests: 1600- 4:22
Minsky will look to help the Wildcats in the middle distance events during the track season, but is also a formidable cross country runner, having broke 15 minutes on the famous Detweiller Park cross country course. Minsky will be the second Grayslake Central High School graduate to join the Wildcats, following in the footsteps of 2017 Davidson graduate Will Brewster.
Coleman Mitchell, Cary Academy, N.C. | Distance
Personal bests: 1600- 4:18, 3000- 8:32, 3200- 9:18
One of the best high school distance runners in the state of North Carolina, Mitchell will run the mile through the 10k for Davidson. An excellent cross country runner, Mitchell will also contribute to the Wildcats harrier squad and comes in as one of the fastest high school 3000 meter runners in Davidson school history, having won four state individual championships and two more on the 4x800 relay.
Paul Mullinax, Athens Academy, Ga. | Throws
Personal bests: Shot Put- 50'7.25, Discus- 153'7
In addition to throwing the shot put and the discus for the Wildcats, Mullinax will also try his hand with the weight throw during the indoor season.
Josef Raphael Oettl, Xavier High School, N.Y. | Mid-Distance
Personal bests: 800- 1:56 (1:55 relay split at NB Nationals), 1000- 2:34, 1600- 4:20.31
A mid-distance runner on the track, Oettl has also run well during the cross country season, having run 13:01 on the famed 2.5 mile Van Cortlandt Park cross country course.
Max Pearson, Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham, UK | Mid-Distance
Personal bests: 800- 1:56.1, 1000- 2:33, 1500- 3:58.72, 3000- 8:46
Pearson will look to run the middle distance events for Davidson, but also focus his effort on cross country in the fall.
Colin Ross, Niskayuna High School, N.Y. | Distance
Personal bests: 3200- 9:30
This year Ross improved his 3200 time by 18 seconds, a sign of things to come. Ross will to contribute for the Wildcats in the distance events and in cross country.
Trent Turbyfill, Trinity Prep High School, Fla. | Distance
Personal bests: 3200- 9:21
An excellent cross country runner, Turbyfill broke the tough Trinity Prep Cross Country course record (16:10 for 5k) and was named All-Southeast at the NXN Regional championships, where he placed 17th and ran 15:36 for the 5k course. Trent will specialize in the distance events for the Davidson Wildcats.
