DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head coach Adam Denton and the Davidson women's soccer program announced their 2018 schedule, highlighted by nine regular season home games at Alumni Stadium. The Wildcats will also face two teams that participated in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
"We are really looking forward to this year's schedule," said Denton, who is entering his second year at the helm of the program. "Our non-conference games allow us to play nine teams from five different conferences that will provide great competition and different challenges in each game. These games will help in our preparation for A-10 play, which always provides very tough competition in every game."
Davidson will host Campbell in its lone exhibition contest, Aug. 11, at Alumni Stadium.
The following weekend the Wildcats will officially open the 2018 campaign hosting two more home games. Starting the season off is an Aug. 17 matchup against Coastal Carolina at 7:30 p.m., and the 'Cats conclude the two-game opening homestand against USC-Upstate on Monday night.
The following weekend, Aug. 24 & 26, the Wildcats will make a short trip to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on Garner-Webb Friday and then travel to face East Carolina on Sunday. They continue with their non-conference schedule by hosting Mercer, Aug. 31, before playing three of their next four games on the road at George Southern (Sept. 2), Elon (Sept. 14) and Western Carolina (Sept. 16).
The lone home game during that stretch will be against former Southern Conference foe UNCG, who are coming off a 2017 SoCon Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The game vs UNCG will also be Senior Night for the Wildcats.
"Senior night is always an emotional and special night for everyone involved with the program," said Denton. "As always, it will be a fantastic event at Alumni Stadium when we honor our seniors and we will have some other events for the families over the rest of the weekend."
Davidson opens up Atlantic 10 play at home, Sept. 20, when it hosts A-10 Regular Season and Tournament Champion La Salle. The Wildcats then jump on a flight to play St Louis three days later.
"Every game in the A-10 is a battle," said Denton. "We start our league games against the top two teams from last year and both teams are ranked around the top-50 RPI. We have to be ready and our non-conference schedule is key in our preparation. We are all excited and looking forward to the challenge."
The next three weekends, the Wildcats have a split weekend of hosting Fordham, Dayton, and UMass, while then traveling to George Mason, VCU and Duquesne. The final week of the regular season will see the 'Cats travel to George Washington, Oct. 18, followed by a home game vs. Richmond, Oct 21.
The A-10 Championship quarterfinals will once again be played at campus sites, with the top four seeds hosting, Oct. 28. The tournament semifinals and championship game will be played at a neutral site that is yet to be determined.
Admission to all Davidson women's soccer games is free of charge.
Davidson returns eight starters who made at least 11 starts from a year ago, including four of their top scorers, and 24 letterwinners in all.
