DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Â Davidson junior Eric Jones continues to make a name for himself, as the backstop was tabbed 19th on d1baseball.com's Catcher Power Rankings Tuesday evening.Â
The list names the top 30 catchers offensively through the first six weeks of the season, taking early season statistics, raw talent, defensive statistics, and ability all into consideration.Â
Jones is the only player from the Atlantic 10 to appear on the list, and also the only player from the league on the three position lists that have been revealed thus far (first base, second base, catcher). He is also the first Wildcat to earn such recognition.
Through 24 games this season, Jones is carrying a .337 batting average and a team-best five home runs. He leads the nation with 35 RBI, and ranks in the Top Five in the league in nearly offensive statistic. A two-time A-10 Player of the Week and former National Player of the Week, Jones has carried a slugging percentage above .600 all season and was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List earlier this season.Â
The Charlotte, N.C., product is one of five catchers on the list not from a Power 5 program.
The rankings will be updated throughout the season.Â
