NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Senior goalie Rose Woolson collected Davidson's first Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse weekly award this year when she was tabbed co-defender of the week by the league office today for games played from Feb. 19-25.
Woolson, who shared the award with Saint Joseph's Bridget Cerciello, won her fifth career defensive player of the week honor. She finished the week with 28 saves, six groundballs, two caused turnovers and an 8.50 goals against average between the pipes.
The senior from Baltimore, Md., had a stellar week during games against Winthrop and William & Mary. Woolson started the week off by holding the Eagles to five goals and coming up with a 14-save outing to earn the win. She added a season-high four groundballs and caused one turnover.
Woolson capped the week off with another 14 saves at William & Mary, helping keep the Wildcats within striking distance before they fell 12-9. She added another two groundballs and forced a turnover.
The back-to-back 14 saves were just one off her career high of 15 she set last year. Woolson pushed her career save total to 310, ranking seventh all-time in the Davidson record books.
Davidson comes home to start a three-game homestand starting next Sunday, March 4, against Mercer at 1 p.m.
