DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball (6-1) completed its first sweep of the season, downing Georgetown (0-6) 10-5 in the Sunday finale at Wilson Field.
Junior Eric Jones continued the long ball brigade from Saturday, pulling in a three-run shot and a grand slam to total seven RBI on the day and 15 in the series. Sophomore Brett Centracchio also homered, his second in as many games, and scored three times.
For the fourth consecutive game, Davidson took the lead right away, as Centracchio blasted his third homer of the season in the first. The 'Cats added a run the following frame, after redshirt sophomore Ward Coleman recorded his first of two hits on the day, then was doubled home by classmate Walker Imwalle.
After senior Cam Johnson and Centracchio were both walked, Jones went deep to left field, putting the 'Cats up 5-1.
Georgetown, who broke through in the third with a solo shot, tied the game in the fourth courtesy of three doubles, a single, and a sac fly.
The game remained a stalemate until the bottom of the sixth, when Jones blasted his first career grand slam. Junior Max Bazin had led off with a single, followed up by a single through the right side from Johnson, and Centracchio had walked to load the bases. Jones has now recorded an extra-base hit in
Davidson also added its final run of the game that inning, after Coleman drove in junior Justin Lebek, who had boarded via hit-by-pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Junior Josh Hudson picked up the win, tossing six and two-thirds innings, allowing no walks.
The Wildcats will head out for their first road trip of the season Tuesday, traveling to Greensboro, N.C., to face North Carolina A&T.
