ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Davidson safety Dreylan Hines was named a Pioneer Football League Co-Freshman Defensive Player of the Year, announced by the league Monday.
Hines led all PFL freshmen in passes defended (8) and interceptions (4). His 4 picks led the Wildcats who in all picked off 13 passes this season. Hines 0.24 interceptions per game ranked 24th in all of the FCS. The Arlington, Texas, native made 40 stops, tied for fifth on the squad.
Hines shares the accolade with Butler defensive end, Mickey Kane. The awards are voted on by the coaches of the Pioneer Football League.
The rookie safety is the first major award winner for Davidson football since Stockton McGuire earned PFL Freshman Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2016 and is the first to earn Freshman of the Year accolades on the defensive side.
The PFL will release its All-Conference teams tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 27.
